A traditional sweet made with thin phyllo sheets, walnuts, and syrup, usually done in Christmas and served at weddings!

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a pot and the ingredients for the syrup and boil on low for 5 minutes, remove and set aside for it to cool. Once cool put in the fridge.
  2. First we add our walnuts or our pistachio nuts in the blender with our 50gr of sugar, cinnamon powder and just break them down. The in a pot we melt our butter, take an oven pan and butter it with a brush then add one phyllo sheet butter it and continue to do the same until you have half of your phyllo left. Then we add our nut, sugar and cinnamon mixture on top, and continue to add phyllo butter, phyllo and butter until all the phyllo sheets are done, and the last layer of butter is on top.
  3. Tuck in all the excess phyllo from the pan and cut the baklava into pieces with a sharp knife. Bake in a preheated oven at 150 degrees Celsius for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Until nice and golden.
  4. Remove from oven and add quickly the cold syrup. Wait until the syrup has been soaked up from the baklava.
  5. Serve with ice-cream.
