A great meze (appetizer) for ouzo. Grilled octopus is everyones favorite.

Ingredients

  1. Prepare the octopus:
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add a pinch of salt and the bay leaf.
  3. Dip the octopus into the boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then remove it. Repeat this process three times to tenderize the octopus.
  4. Leave the octopus in the boiling water, reduce the heat, and simmer for 40-45 minutes until tender.
  5. Remove the octopus from the water and let it cool.
  6. Marinate the octopus:
  7. Cut the cooled octopus into large pieces.
  8. In a bowl, mix the olive oil, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  9. Add the octopus pieces to the marinade and let it sit for 15 minutes. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  10. Grill the octopus pieces for 3-4 minutes on each side until they are slightly charred and crispy.
  11. Transfer the grilled octopus to a serving plate. Garnish with additional fresh parsley and lemon slices.
  12. Serve hot with your favorite side dishes.
